Travel Time by Car
Philadelphia - 2 hours
NYC & Washington DC: 3.5 hours
Atlantic City: 45 minutes
From the Atlantic City Expressway
Traveling east via the Atlantic City Expressway take Exit 7S (Cape May) to Garden State Parkway (GSP) South.
**Once on Garden State Parkway, go to end, which is Exit 0. Follow signs to Route 109 South to Cape May (which is essentially just straight ahead when you get to the end of the parkway.
***Go through one light, and continue straight, crossing the Canal bridge and then the marina bridge, (Landmark: Cape May Whale Watcher on right). Proceed forward...this becomes Lafayette Street. Go one mile and make a left at the first traffic light onto Madison Avenue.
Once on Madison, go thru one light (Washington Street) and go past Corgie Street, Columbia Avenue. Make the next right (one block PAST the water tower), onto Sewell Street and proceed to its end. The Chalfonte is located at the corner of Howard and Sewell Streets. (You can't miss it!)
From the Delaware Memorial Bridge
Follow signs to Route 40 East and continue on this and follow signs for Route 55 South.
Once on 55 South, take to the very end and continue straight. This becomes Route 347/47. At all costs, resist following signs TO ROUTE 47. This is a snare and a delusion. It's a long and winding road. Keep your wheels on 347 and continue approximately 17 miles. You will pass a Wa-Wa around the 16 mile point. From there, proceed to the next light, and make a left onto Route 657 and follow for @ 7 miles. At the intersection of Route 9 and 657, you will see the Hospital on the far left corner, and the Cape May Court House Diner on the far right corner. Proceed straight and at the next light, you will take a right onto the Garden State Parkway. From there, follow directions from the ** above.
From the Cape May-Lewes Ferry
Once off the Ferry, you will come out of the parking lot and make a right. Follow signs into Cape May. You will merge with folks coming off the Garden State Parkway -- be careful! You will be on Route 109 South. From here follow the directions from the *** above.
Traffic tip if coming from the Ferry...if you run into a bunch of traffic coming from the Ferry to Cape May, you can take an alternate route. Make a right onto Seashore Road (school buses on left). The road curves around to the left, so follow this over the canal bridge. This road becomes Broadway in West Cape May. Go straight, going through one light and continuing on to its end, which is BEACH DRIVE. (There are other slightly shorter distance routes through town, but this is the quickest in time, plus you will see the ocean once you hit Beach Drive. Make a left onto Beach, and continue on about 10 blocks. After you pass Stockton, the next left is HOWARD STREET. Take Howard Street 3 blocks and you will see the Chalfonte on the right.
